Read

When sixteen-year-old Maya needed a tent for a school trip, she discovered that buying one was expensive. Her father suggested borrowing his friend's tent instead. This gave Maya an idea: why not create a library for useful things? She shared her plan with the town librarian, Mr Lee. He offered her an empty cupboard near the entrance. Maya then asked neighbours to donate equipment they rarely used. Within two weeks, the cupboard contained a tent, several tools and a small sewing machine. At first, only a few people borrowed anything. Maya realised that most visitors walked past the cupboard without noticing it. She made a colourful sign and organised a Saturday event where people could learn to use the equipment. After the event, more families joined. Each person could borrow one item for a week, free of charge. Maya still helped Mr Lee check every returned item. She was pleased that her simple idea saved people money and encouraged neighbours to share.
