Small Space, Big Possibilities: Writing a Persuasive Proposal

A convincing proposal balances an imaginative idea with practical reasoning. In this lesson, you will recommend a new use for a shared space while anticipating readers’ concerns.

Key words

  • repurpose — to use something for a different purpose
  • feasible — possible and practical to carry out
  • inclusive — designed to welcome people with different needs and backgrounds

Tip: Build your proposal around a clear recommendation, supporting benefits, and a realistic response to one objection. Use cautious language such as “could” and “would be likely to” when outcomes are not certain.

Your task

Your local library has an unused courtyard and a limited improvement budget. Write a formal proposal to the library manager recommending how to repurpose it. Explain how your idea would benefit different users, address one potential concern, and suggest how its success could be evaluated. Use headings and a constructive, persuasive tone. Write 220–260 words.
